TOMORROW - Saturday home meet

RAIN or SHINE

The mighty Neptunes will be (more than) fine!

TOMORROW is our last home swim meet of the season.  We will face Pleasant Valley (the other undefeated team in Division 17!!)

Weather has changed a little this week and seems to be looking cool and rainy for tomorrow.  Some tips on what to bring:

  • warm clothes/jackets/blankets to stay warm in between races
  • a plastic bag to store dry clothes/towels (or to separate dry from wet)
  • tents/umbrellas (we have some extras we will add to the team area)
  • small healthy snacks

**SWIMMERS:  Eat a good dinner & get a good night's rest!!

REMEMBER:  We swim in rain!!  Should we hear thunder, we need to get off the deck and wait in our cars for 45 minutes.  In the case of a weather delay, we ask that swimmers DO NOT LEAVE the parking lot.  We will do everything we can to complete the swim meet. Please sign up for the REMIND app to receive fast updates via text.  TO SIGN UP: text @nfneptunes to 81010.

CLOUDS or SUN

The mighty Neptunes are going to have FUN!!

(For those of you who missed the weekly Newsletter, please read below: Coach Jamie's explanation of the meet tomorrow!!)

A Meet versus Pleasant Valley, Saturday July 21st

This is an exciting time for the Neptunes as we seek to be the Division Champions! NF and Pleasant Valley are both 4-0 and the winner of our meet next Saturday will be the undefeated Division Champion. This will be a fun, CLOSE meet and every swimmer will make a difference! Our last Division Championship was in 2009, with our last undefeated season coming in 2006.

What does it mean to be Division Champions?

There is a lot that goes behind being the Division Champion. On the surface, we get a big trophy to put on display at the pool and bragging rights to call ourselves champions. That's fun and exciting, but it's not what we are here for. The Coaches really want to be champions so that we can move up to the next division. We have a STRONG team that is quickly growing and improving, especially with our newly reinstated Winter Swim Program, and Division 17 is not a match for our team. We won our first meet by 173 points. That wasn't because our team is "that good," it was because the other team simply didn't have numbers to stack up against us. We didn't do anything to win that meet except show up. The necessary thing for our swimmers to take the next step is to move up to a tougher/stronger division. This would mean that we would lose more meets, possibly even most of our meets at first. However, our kids will see tougher competition and their races will mean more. It is fun to race each other and beat our friends, but it's that much more exciting when we have new challenges each week. Our swimmers don't know the feeling of a close meet where the entire team is cheering on those last relays because EVERY. RACE. MATTERS. I want our swimmers to see what that feels like. Next week we can get a taste of it, but if we win that meet and move up to Division 16, then we will get a much stronger dose of that competitive edge. Last year, we were the best team in Division 17. We lost 1 meet because we had 33 swimmers out of town the week that we faced our strongest opponent. We don't want that to happen again because our swimmers deserve the chance to move up and face an opponent that will push them to keep getting better.

Senior Meet:

In addition to the historical opportunity for our team, next Saturday will be our SENIOR MEET. As our final home meet, we will be honoring our Senior Swimmers. They are Britni Rose, Maddi Flynn, Fiona Price, Lindsay Malley, Dieter Kerat. Additionally, Coach Craig Allison was recognized as a Senior last year, but is finishing his final season as a swimmer. Please come support these swimmers for all they have done for us over the years!

O Lift your heads up to the Sky!

The Mighty Neptunes are passing by!
